Introduction:

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is primarily an extension institute which is for Transfer of Technology.

As such it has all the required segments of extension linkages like Farmers clubs, location specific crop based groups, ex trainee groups, etc. The KVK has excellent rapport with the farming community over last 1 ½ decade through its innovative and measurable programs like IPM, organic farming, Subsistence farming for marginal and small farmers, improved technologies in cultivation of cotton, soybean, oilseeds and pulses , horticultural crops etc. The KVK has in past fifteen years, reached to 617 villages in Beed district through network of ex-trainees and Master trainers.

The KVK has formed number of Farmers Activity Based Groups viz. Fodder, Seed Growing groups, Crop based groups, IPM, Goatry, etc. The KVK can reach to any number of subject special groups who can further propagate technology horizontally to other farmers.

The KVK has established itself as the Knowledge and resource hub for agriculture and allied technologies and its backstopping. Through newly developed E-governance system, the KVK has increased its reach to whole of the district through FIG, SFI, group farming. The KVK serves as district repository of information on various technologies in agriculture and allied sector.

The SMS service provided to the farmers keeps them well informed of day to day activities of farming. The KVK is being viewed as source for up-gradation of technological knowhow, facilitator for various government programs of line departments like Agriculture (NHM, RKVY, ATMA) AH, Sericulture, etc.

Objective:
  • To bring about total transformation and development of society through designing and implementing a framework to achieve and sustain self-reliance in villages through the initiative, involvement and empowerment of the villagers with replicable, definable and tangible parameters.
  • With above purpose the KVK has implemented all the mandatory activities includes On Farm Testing of agricultural technologies to identified its location specificity under various farming systems, to conduct front line demonstrations, to establish its production potential, training of farmers to update their knowledge and skill and training of extension personal to orient them in frontier areas of technological development.
  • KVK act as platform for assessment refinement and large scale demonstration of technologies using cluster village approach for effective transfer to farmer, farm women, and rural youth and extension functionaries of the district.
  • Our KVK has 54 acres of land for instructional farm which is also known as farm science center where the agricultural technologies relevant to the district are demonstrated for the benefit of visiting farmers. We have establish all the demonstrative units like crop cafeteria, fruits & vegetable seedling units, Bio fertilizer & Bio pesticide lab, Soil testing lab, live stock unit, vermicomposting and Home science unit and also establish diversification of crops module of 1.5 & 2.5 acres for small and marginal land holding farmers.
  • The scientist of the KVK has some specific objective to achieve the mandatory work of the KVK which are precision farming, organic farming, and employment opportunities amongst rural youth, to increase live stock production, to develop a profitable diversification model for marginal farmers. On an average annually 125-150 courses of training programme conducted at KVK as well as villages out of which courses 1800 to 2000 farmers, farm women, rural youths & extension functionaries are benefited/ trained in different subject.
  • The KVK has developed strong linkage with the entire line department SAU’s and others. It has also undertaken two projects by department of bio-technology, New Delhi. At present we are working for CFC/FAO/ICRISAT project on Enhanced utilization of sorghum and pearl-millet grains in poultry feed industry to improve live hoods of small scale farmers in Asia by this we all are present here for sharing of ideas & make success of the project in our country.

Vision:
To increase the yield of crop, milk fruits and vegetables of farmers up to 25-30% with available natural resources. Training of Rural youths for income generation through various activities. Emphasis on sustainable agriculture (Organic Agriculture) Subsistence forming through 1, 1.5 and 2.5 acre model as a profitable one. Preparation of village wise soil health card of adopted villages. To increase socio-economic status of the farmers through front line demonstrations. To increase the productivity of live stocks through breed improvement. Women empowerment through various activities.
Purpose:
Administrative building The Krishi Vigyan Kendra has very well developed administrative building having classrooms, Audioterium, soil & water analysis laboratory, & Bioagent production unit, meeting hall, well furnished office The classrooms are well furnished & are supported by the audiovisual aids. Farmers hostel The Krishi Vigyan Kendra has a farmer's hostel that can accommodate more than 125 farmers at a time. The hostel rooms are well furnished too. The facilities are also available to outside farmers who visit us during study tours on nominal charges. The hostel has solar water heating systems & solar streetlights. It is also equipped with a generator Soil and water testing laboratory This well equipped laboratory analyses soil & water samples at reasonable rates. The laboratory is supported with computer software for more precise interpretation of results. Every soil sample is analyzed for eight parameters such as pH, Electric Conductivity, Organic carbon, available nitrogen, available phosphorus, & available Potassium, Exchangeable sodium, Calcium & magnesium content. Bio-control unit This unit produces & provides different bio-control agents & biofertilizers on no profit & no loss basis. like Trichoderma, Neempowder, Azeotobacter, Acetobactor, Rhizobium and PSB
