Mission:

The Headquarters of Deendayal Research Institute is located at 7-E, Swami Ramtirth Nagar, Jhandewala Extn. New Delhi. This is a sacred memorial of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay, the seer and philosopher of “Integral Humanism”. He inspired thousands of young souls to dedicate themselves in the selfless service of the nation through his unpretentious and unassuming life. He was actively engaged in search of a philosophy of life and socio-economic structure suited to the present age. But on February 11, 1968, the cruel hands of destiny snatched him away, bringing the pursuit of the mission to an abrupt end. So to fulfill his unaccomplished mission and to translate into reality his dream of a strong, prosperous and dynamic India which is free of socio-economic disparities, Honorable Nanaji Deshmukh, a close associate of Pt. Deendayalji undertook this arduous task and Deendayal Upadhyay Smarak Samiti, a society under Society Registration Act 1860 came into existence on March 8, 1968. This memorial building was inaugurated on 20 August 1972 by Param Pujya Shri Guruji.

This was the start of a laboratory in which some of his colleagues had undertaken the stupendous task of setting up a model of socio-economic order. This is a unique laboratory where both thought and action have been harmoniously blended for ushering a new era. In the beginning some of its activities were as follows;

  • Publication of quarterly Journal Manthan in English and Hindi besides this publication on other important issues.
  • Organizing of periodical lectures, group discussions on current and basic issues of national importance
  • Essay Competitions
  • Organization of workshops of experts to meet the requirements of actual field work.
  • Presently DRI, Delhi acts as a liaison office with the various agencies of central and state govt. including other voluntary and social organizations. Delhi office besides overseeing and coordinating the activities of all centers of DRI also provides logistical support to all units in their Endeavour of social reconstruction.
  • It acts as a center of intellectual activities organizing discussions and seminars in the auditorium situated in the building premises. There is also a library with vast collection of books on social sciences. A magazine Yuganukul Navrachana and literature on other subjects has been published from here.

This was started as a laboratory in which some of his colleagues had undertaken the stupendous task of setting up a model of socio-economic order. This is a unique laboratory where both thought and action have been harmoniously blended for ushering a new era. In the beginning some of its activities were as follows;

Purpose:

In 1973, soon after its start, Deendayal Research Institute had sent medical missions to conduct medical relief operations in the drought affected areas of Maharastra, Karnataka, Gujrat, flood affected parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. In Nov 1977 when a cyclone devastated the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, the resurrection of Mulapalem village as Deendayalpuram, has become a symbol of triumph of Man's creative endeavours over the destructive vagaries of Nature.

Presently, Delhi Project of Deendayal Research Institute acts as a liaison office with the various agencies of central and state govt including other voluntary organizations. Delhi office besides overseeing and coordinating the activities of all centers of DRI,also provides logistical support to all units in their endeavour of social reconstruction. It acts as a center of intellectual activities organizing discussions and seminars in the auditorium situated in the building premises. There is also a library with vast collection of books on social sciences . A committee has been constituted to collect, conserve and publish the memoir of Honorable Nanaji Deshmukh so that the future generations can take motivation from his inspirational personality.

Nanaji with his great vision and complete faith in the latent strength of the people resolved to serve the downtrodden and the neglected people of the society rejecting the lucrative offer of union minister of Industries in the cabinet of Shri Morarji Desai in the year 1977. His declaration made on October8,1978 in the presence of Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan in Patna, is historical wherein he said, After having lived through the experience of today s political working style for 28 years, I have arrived at the conclusion that prevalent politics can neither help the resurgence of constructive leadership nor become an instrument of social and economic reconstruction. To break this impasse, we shall have to find an alternative, constructive style of working in place of the present day political methodology. Although I am aware of my shortcomings and limitations, I wish to dedicate the rest of my life in the pursuit of this goal. It is natural that I shall not only have to relieve myself of my present political responsibilities but also have to dissociate myself from party politics altogether. I pray to the God that I be blessed and given the necessary wisdom and strength to succeed in this mission.
