Mission

To Provide most effective technical support and services to the farming communities for practicing sustainable agriculture

Objectives:

  • Turning uneconomic land holdings into profitable ones by developing resource based farming system.
  • Developing alternate cropping patterns specific for rain fed, partially irrigated and irrigated conditions
  • Reducing the vulnerability of agriculture to risks & uncertainties of climate change by developing appropriate technologies that will adapt or mitigate the effects
  • Diversification of land use system for enhancing income, employment and livelihood security.

Bamboo Awareness week

Bamboo awareness week was organized on KVK campus on 08.10.10 to 10.10.10. about 398 farmers attended the programme. The farmers were imparted training on bamboo cultivation as well as bamboo craft. Besides farmers were also shown bambusetum and bamboo nursery established in KVK campus. At the end of each day each farmer was provided 5 bamboo saplings for plantation on farm bunds or ponds bunds. In total 5000 saplings of bamboos were provided to the farmers for planting in their homestead..

The products of bamboo developed by rural youths during the training programmes were exhibited in the mela organized in Chitrakoot during Diwali festival

Stratagies

Natural resource management for all round development of society with a view to develop viable & sustainable agriculture model.

To increase the productivity and area of cultivation up to 30-40% & 10-15%, respectively under rain-fed cropping conditions by 2010.

To promote organic farming for conservation of soil fertility and sustainable production.

To develop profitable diversification farming system model for small and marginal farming communities.

To generate employment opportunities amongst rural youth through long-term agri based vocational training with a view to achieve tangible results.

To increase livestock production through better management and breeding by 50-60% by 2010.

To establish seed production units for major crops/vegetables to meet the demand of the farming community.

Achivements

National Best Krishi Vigyan Kendra Award


Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Majhgawan, Satna, M.P. has been awarded with “National Best Krishi Vigyan Kendra Award for the Year 2008” for its contribution in playing multidimensional role towards socio economic upliftment of down trodden section of society.

The centre is working whole heartedly for farmers and conceptualized and initiated innovative programme in the district in the field of agriculture and allied. The programme which have been implemented by Krishi Vigyan Kendra are aimed at management of natural resources , propagating organic agriculture by motivating and offering trainings and technical assistance, analyzing and validating indigenous and traditional knowledge systems and running demonstrative units on agri enterprises like model watershed management, organic farms, nursery, dairy, poultry, goatery and mushroom cultivation.

The programme initiated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra for improvement of sustainable village condition, led change in attitude of tribal families towards education, health, environmental protection, human rights, self realization for future production and cooperative life.

The award has been conferred in the benign presence of Hon’ble Union Food and Agriculture Minister Sri Sharad Pawar, Tamilnadu Chief Minister Sri M. Karunanidhi and Director General Indian Council of Agricultural Research in National Conference of Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s at Tamilnadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu during Nov. 06-08, 2009.
